Mandate This body examines all draft material and proposals relating to human rights.
Membership The body, whose Bureau has 6 (six) members, all elected, serves for a term of 5 (five) years. It comprises: a Chairperson, two Vice-Chairpersons and three Rapporteurs. Its membership is made up of 114 Deputies. The five-year term matches that of the legislative period.
Working methods The body hears the originator of the text, who may be a member of the Government in the case of draft legislation and a parliamentarian in the case of a legislative proposal. It then drafts a report providing the appropriate parliamentary follow-up, for adoption first in the Committee plenary before its final adoption in the National Assembly plenary, which for its part is public.
Relations with other parliamentary bodies The National Assembly's relations focus on the parliamentary shuttle and the work in the Joint Round-Table Commission (CMP) involving Parliament as a whole.
Relations with external bodies The external body acting as intermediary between the National Assembly and the Government is the Ministry of Relations with the Parliament and Constitutional Institutions.
Subjects dealt with The body examines, inter alia, the following material: - Draft legislation establishing and organizing the National Human Rights Commission; - Draft legislation to prevent and combat trafficking in children in the Gabonese Republic; - Draft legislation to prevent and combat sexual mutilations.
